Can we talk for a minute about how much I love Spotify’s “Discover Weekly” playlist? In the past I’ve always been pretty disappointed with technological attempts to predict my taste. Amazon is not good at recommending books I’ll like, Pandora playlists constantly disappoint, but the Discover Weekly playlist knows me well. It was there that I first found Danish singer/songwriter Agnes Obel. Check out her clear voice and melancholy melodies, here She’s a genius on the piano. She also has fantastic hair. She wears her golden strands in understated braids, knots, and ponytails that look both girlish and grownup thanks to subtle wisps and glossy shine. Get tips for creating her quirky classic looks in the style notes.
Step: Get Obel’s glossy volume by prepping hair with styling whip, focusing on roots, and misting mid-lengths and ends with set and style spray. Dry with a boar bristle round brush.
Step: Create a blended part like Obel’s by brushing hair back then using fingers to split anywhere there isn’t a natural split. Mist roots of part with holding spray to create style memory.
Step: To steal Obel’s relaxed updos use fingers, not a brush, to pull hair up, allowing small splits to remain. Blouse roots before braiding or twisting into a bun, to soften the shape’s silhouette.
