The word undercut usually calls to mind extreme contrast and punk influence, but not all undercut styles are edgy statements. Recently, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, and Malin Akerman have debuted short shapes that show a different side of the undercut, a more glamorous, tailored side. These cuts aren’t conservative, but but they use contrasting lengths to create versatile, feminine, lean silhouettes. Learn more about getting the look in the style notes. –– Laura Martin
Step: To maximize versatility, ask your stylist for an undercut that is completely covered by the top layer of hair. That way you can choose to expose or cover the shorter lengths as you choose.
Step: Keep the top length around chin level and one-length. This will give your cut a touch of classic-bob chicness and allow you to create looks ranging from smooth to tousled.
