mens hair

For inspiring men’s haircuts there are few better places to look than the soccer fields of Europe. As a Manchester United fan, I’m particularly interested in the British players; their hairstyles show a surprising variety from Maroune Fellaini’s ample afro to Oliver Giroud’s polished swoosh. The photos above are a few of my favorite looks form this season of football. Learn more about these particular looks and the trends they represent in the style notes. –– Laura Martin

Maroune Fellaini: Afros and other long styles are a big trend for men with natural curls. Historically most men with curls have kept their hair short, but in recent years more men are embracing their natural texture. Fellaini keeps his coils soft but separated, an effect you can replicate with curl definer.

David Silva: So, yes this is kind of a mullet, but it works. Shaggy texture is perfectly balanced with tightly tapered sideburns and undercut length around the ears, making this shape a sort of midpoint between shag and mohawk.

Remy Cabella: Faux hawks are the quintessential soccer cut, but Remy’s is an exceptional example. Asymmetric at the hairline with a shaved line of demarcation and worn in sleek, low gloss wet-look texture, this shape is modern and tailored with just a hint of punk.

Oliver Giroud: Has a dapper look that combines glossy flick with disconnected, shaved sides for a contemporary take on a classic mens shape. The side swept shaping and neat layers provide a cool variation to prohibition-era style.
