Buns and ponytails are reliable classics, but if you’re stuck in a rut, these sleek faux bobs are just the thing to shake up your routine. Pseudo short styles usually come in romantic textures and loose finishes, but sleek, controlled lines give this retro shape an appealing modern twist that feels fresh and sophisticated. Read on for detailed steps to creating this posh style. –– Laura Martin
Step: Spray protective thickening lotion throughout clean, damp hair; add a dime of defrizz serum through ends. These products will provide gentle control and a sleek finish. Dry smooth with a paddle brush.
Step: Mist dry hair with holding spray. Take a wide mohawk section from the front hairline to the crown and clip away. Apply a small amount of styling creme to the remaining hair, comb back flat against the head, and secure at the back using bobby pins. Wrap ends into a roll or bun and secure at the nape.
Step: Release the top section of hair and comb straight back, using holding spray for control. Wrap the ends over the back of the head and around the hair pinned at the nape, covering it completely. Fan out the top hair to create a bob shape and secure with bobby pins.
