The bouffant may never come back in full 1960s glory, but revamped versions are experiencing a resurgence. Ever since Lana Del Ray reinvented big hair, we’ve been seeing variations on styles like the beehive and bouffant. The version shown here is soft and shiny, with a glamorous deep side part and big twirled curls. Learn to create this reimagined retro shape in the notes. –– Laura Martin
Step: On clean, dry hair, create a deep side parting, tracing a line from the corner of the brow to top of crown. Divide hair from ear to ear, clipping front sections away.
Step: Use a round paddle brush to tease crown lightly. Smooth top surface, brushing hair back. Finish with holding spray.
Step: Release front sections. Direct thicker side across forehead creating a faux bang. Use a large—1 ½” or more—to curl ends. Allow to cool and gently comb through. Finish with another spritz of holding spray.
