A tumble of wild hair swept forward in a wispy tangle balanced with a super sleek exterior provides an intriguing combination. The wild ends can be curled, crimped or straight, and worn lightly disheveled or in heightened disarray. The look is perfect for pairing with a glamorous evening ensemble. Wear it with understated makeup and forgo jewelry; your hair will be statement enough. Click the style notes for step-by-step instructions. –– Laura Martin

Step: Apply a handful of volume foam to roots, focusing on the top and crown of the head. Mist all over with protective thickening lotion. Dry with a round brush, lifting up at the roots to maximize volume. When all moisture is removed, add desired texture to ends with straightening iron or curling wand.

Step: Separate hair along the parietal ridge, tracing back from the temples to just below the crown, isolating the top section. Clip this area away. Brush remaining hair back sleek and smooth on both sides, gather together at nape. Twist once, folding ends up, and leaving them free, and pin into place.

Step: Release top section. Spray short bursts of refinish into roots, adding height and hold. Back comb ends to create expansion and lightness, and refine with fingers. Finish with holding spray.
