A playful short cut in a feminine shade of pink or purple is pretty and stylish. Long bangs that sweep to the side give the style versatility and softness. Closely cropped sides and back add structure and a touch of daring.  A wash of plum or mauve gives a whimsical touch. Pair this look with statement earrings and a fuchsia lip for a a bold but beautiful statement. Read on for step by step instructions to achieving the look, including my professional color formualtion. –– Laura Martin

Step: The cut should be short on the sides and back with a layered top that gets gradually longer toward the face. A “v” shaped bang will push easily to either side without looking bulky. For thick hair, sides should be taken extremely short and disconnected from the top length. Finer hair types will benefit from graduated sides that gradually build weight.

Step: Hair chalk or colored conditioner will give a temporary version of bright tones; lighter base shades will provide more vibrancy. For a long-lasting versions try Goldwell 7PK or 6VV shades.

Step: To style at home add a nickel of hair creme to clean damp hair and dry with fingers, tousling the hair to encourage texture and pushing toward the face. When dry, use cream wax to define and separate tips.
