If your headbands are packed away at the back of your closet with your pleated minis and Gossip Girl novels, it’s time to dig them out ladies! This hot season, I’ve spotted a number of cool gals on the street choosing intricate headband to top off their crowning glory and provide tendrils with a sleek finishing touch. Everyone from actresses to models off duty are pulling hair back with silk scarves or rocking a bejeweled wreath for a night out. This is an easy trend to follow and a definite do. Last week Vogue.com and Coach hosted a karaoke dance party on Second Avenue’s Ukrainian East Village Restaurant. Besides the menu of pierogies, veal meatballs, and sausages, (who says you can’t talk about food on a hair blog ) the main highlight of the evening was all of the custom flower crowns, aka Ukrainian wreaths, aka vinoks. The simple yet incredibly charming hair adornments of delicate chamomile buds and tea cup roses were a refreshing and lighthearted alternative to the previous season’s floral crowns. Folk and Eastern European influences have been trending this season in fashion and the vinoks continues to gain popularity as a stylish statement. Take note of the models at the party and wear your blooms with great messy texture or a plait and choose small florets. It’s mid-summer beauty, done right. The Spring 2017 menswear shows are currently underway in Milan. And while this season is mostly focused on the men, some designers are showing early looks for the ladies as well. Miuccia Prada returned to travel as an overall theme for the season and the ladies strutting down her runway wore amazing gym inspired braids paired with dewy complexions—a great beauty combination for summer. I loved the sporty hair, a look comprised of slim braids that were done diagonally down the crown and finished with a halo of wispys. The models appeared to have just walked out of yoga class, their inner glow showing through. This is gym chic done right. Think chic cuffs are only for your wrists? Think again. The new trending decoration, the bun cuff, is an amazing multifunctional accessory that doubles as jewelry for your hair. It’s the perfect way to dress up your top knot, messy bun, or half-up style and is completely effortless to wear. I’ve spotted some amazing options on Free People.com featuring statement stones and elastic backs which are fabulous for the festival circuit. Or if you’re into a more a minimalist chic look, the Jen Atkin x Chloe +Isabel collaboration has contemporary, metallic cuffs, secured by a U-shaped pin. I’ve also seen ladies on Instagram rocking the cuffs on their wrists as bracelets, which is definitely more fashionable than rocking a black hair tie. Are you ready to wear this trendy game-changer? This spring, the beret is making a comeback. It’s not hard to see why—francophile style is all the rage—but it is a little hard to see how. Berets have become such a stereotypical indicator of French-ness that we now associate them with Pepe Le Pew. Berets are also associated with beatniks, jazz musicians, and Che Guevara. Thats a lot of connections and they can make this particular topper feel a little costume-y. How do you make this historic accessory feel contemporary?
