We’ve seen bobs of all shapes and sizes over the last few years: long bobs, wavy bobs, stacked curly bobs, and short choppy bobs. Strangely enough, what we haven’t seen is a lot of is the classic, a one-length blunt bob that falls somewhere between chin and mid-neck. That’s about to change. This fall, bobs are going polished and sleek. Ready to take your bob in chic new direction? Click the notes to learn the essentials of the classic. –– Laura Martin Click for StyleNotes →

One of the ingenious things that the truly cool do is pull off looks that other people intentionally avoid. ‘IT’ girls know how to rock mom jeans, ugly sweaters, and scrunchies. They know how to pair fitted pieces with oversized ones. They know that small imperfections make them look more appealing. They know exactly which rules they can break. This boxy, blunt haircut is often referred to as “triangle head.” It’s one of those styles that most people avoid, and that’s what makes it so cool. Worn with fluffy volume and flicked ends, this cut looks chic and effortless. Learn more about pulling off the look in the notes. –– Laura Martin  Click for StyleNotes →

It’s almost the springtime, which means many of us want to chop off tendrils and start anew. If you are thinking of a cut, why not use some inspiration from this past fashion month? Based on what I saw, the statement cut is definitely back in. No more meh long locks, the coolest models and it girls are rocking a variety of look at me dos. Think soft pixies, crops, and shags. And of course texture is so in right now that any cut you choose will truly be you. Click through to style notes for more inspiration. Choose your favorite and bring it in to your stylist. You’ll be fresh for spring in no time. –– Michelle Rotbart Click for StyleNotes →

An ear cuff seems like a daring accessory, something that feels rebellious and a little wild, but the adornment also lends itself well to more classic looks. As shown above, a cuff with a simple radial design adds a modern touch to old Hollywood waves. An ear cuff can make a simple updo look chic and fashion forward or give some drama to a casual side-part. Click the notes to see more examples of this trending accessory in action. –– Laura Martin

In the new Star Wars movie, when Han and Leia are reunited after a long separation, the first thing he says to her is, “You changed your hair.” It may seem an arbitrary observation, but a new hairstyle is rarely a purely aesthetic adjustment. Our hair is one of the primary ways we self-identify. What’s happening on our heads usually reveals a lot about what’s going on in our minds. Getting a dramatic color change or major chop has a huge emotional impact. In fact, I’d argue that changing your hair is one of the most powerful symbolic gestures a person can make. What does your hair say about you? –– Laura Martin Click for StyleNotes →
