I’ve been seeing a lot of very subtle ombre lately. Emma Watson, Lily James, and Abbey Lee are just a few of the A-listers who are wearing their hair in a minimal, light-to-dark fade. I’m especially fond of understated melts for brunettes, like this warm blend of peppery brown and spicy dark caramel. Emma Watson arrives for a screening of her new documentary “The True Cost”

Only hours ago, actress, feminist, and all-around style star Emma Watson turned heads with a cropped new ‘do. She was spotted wearing the asymmetrical, chin-grazing textured bob at the screening of The True Cost in London and revealed the look to the masses via her publicist, Luke Windsor. The great photo was captioned with the words “Amazing woman. Amazing new hair.” Watson famously chopped her locks at the finish of the Harry Potter films, citing the change as “the most liberating thing.” Recognizing their transformative powers, Emma’s all about great makeovers and great hair, and I can’t wait to see what she does next. If you’re suddenly feeling hair envy, and also want to wear a great textured bob, learn how to style similar looks below. –– Michelle Rotbart  Click for StyleNotes →

In-between campaigning for gender equality, Emma Watson loves to get dolled up like a princess. Her dutiful stylists did her proud for this shot, featured in Vogue UK’s September issue. The warm reddish brown has homespun appeal that feels perfect for fall, and for Emma’s eye color and freckly complexion, while her lengthly locks are beautifully and fashionably styled. The deep side-part creates drama and encourages your eyes to drift across hers, while the low-volume, head-hugging styling blends imperfect waves and flyways for windswept allure, like a mermaid rising from the sea. In the notes, learn how to put together a similar style.

Emma Watson is doing a stellar job of distancing herself from the typecast of a nagging, bushy-haired sorceress. First, she cut off all her locks––a classic celebrity trick for attention-grabbing––and then she remodeled herself as a fashion and beauty icon, in the process gaining a slew of new movie roles. Her latest is Noah and the erstwhile witch is wowing crowds with her fashion and beauty looks on its European Premiere tour. Her slicked back hair is the star of this ensemble, bringing vampish vanguard drama to her look. If you too need a kick of left-field glam this weekend, learn how to create a similar hairstyle in the style notes.
