shoulder length hair

This simple shape is one of the most flattering styles for girls with fine hair. The length is short enough that you won’t have to struggle to achieve volume at the roots and the blunt edge makes hair appear thicker and fuller. The length, which falls just past the collar bone, softens the line of the shoulders and elongates the neck. Worn straight with a center part as shown here the shape feels classic and unfussy. Dark roots and golden ends add a touch of grunginess. Click the style notes for tips on getting and styling this complimentary look. –– Laura Martin

The word undercut usually calls to mind extreme contrast and punk influence, but not all undercut styles are edgy statements. Recently, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, and Malin Akerman have debuted short shapes that show a different side of the undercut, a more glamorous, tailored side. These cuts aren’t conservative, but but they use contrasting lengths to create versatile, feminine, lean silhouettes. Learn more about getting the look in the style notes. –– Laura Martin
