Co-cleansing is a term used to describe washing your hair with conditioner as opposed to shampoo, aka “conditioner-only washing.” Many people, especially those with curly hair, prefer co-cleansing to traditional cleansing because it’s a gentler method that doesn’t strip hair of its natural oils.
The no-shampoo trend has been on the rise for decades now, growing in popularity since the late eighties. And in the eighties, shampooing less was probably good advice. Most of the “luxury” products on the market then differed little from their drugstore counterparts beyond having fancier packaging.
