As we lie back for the last days of summer, fashion houses are dousing us in their fall/winter campaigns. There’s plenty tips one can take from the imagery, even if not quite ready for knits. Theory, for example, is lobbying for minimalistic essentials. More interesting, though, are the beauty looks that go with their campaign; they once again show a high fashion house portraying women and girls with waves and curls. We’ve seen a slew of marketing imagery showing the same looks, which means the summer trend for beachy waves and undone elegance is set to snowball into fall and winter. Time for an American Wave! After seasons and seasons of washing our hair as little as possible, it maybe time to make the switch from unwashed lengths, or at least look like it. Since this summer is all about sleek and wet hair looks that last way beyond the shower, it’s time to rock a look that looks like you just combed it back after a quick dip in the water. I’ve seen everyone from cool girls like Joan Smalls walk the red carpet wearing this look to girls on the runway at Calvin Klein and Dior strut down the runway wearing wet lengths. But you don’t have to be a celebrity or at fashion week to wear this style. It translates into everyday quite easily, becoming a more softer and cleaner approach that just boarders on the wet look. A ponytail is usually the first hairstyle we ever learn to do, but chances are you may still be struggling to keep it looking new even today. Though it’s good to keep it simple sometimes it’s fun to switch it up with unique nuances like adding in a braid or a loop or an accessory. I’m always looking for inspiration for hairstyles on the runway, in editorials, and even on the street. So I was so excited when I saw a super cool  chic rocking a look that was part pony part braid over the weekend. I literally stopped her to ask how she did her hair and was surprised to find out it was so totally easy. No need for professional skills, just a few basics steps.  To learn how to emulate this look, click through to style notes. –– Michelle Rotbart Click for StyleNotes →
