You know when you are aimlessly scrolling through the web and come across a photo that makes you stop and stare? That’s exactly what happened when I came across Creative Director & Lead Stylist at Verde Salon, Jenna Moore’s photo.

I spoke with Jenna about the process of creating this shoot and her vision behind it.

There are few times when “one size fits all” is actually accurate, but this chic and simple undo really is perfect for just about any occasion from casual coffee date to formal wedding. Easily customize the front with a dramatic part or faux bang; add a few embellished clips or flowers to dress it up; or tie a scarf around the hairline to soften. Start with curls, waves, or glossy sleekness; this shape works for everyone! However you make it your own, you’re going to love this look. Just last week I wrote about my lifelong love of pigtails, and then days later I start seeing braided pigtails all over the runway. I’m thrilled this look is back in fashion, but I’m even more excited that the stylists for Creatures of The Wind, Sally Lapointe, and Baja East have come up with fresh, whimsical variations of this simple style. Best of all, these three looks are easy to recreate at home. Click the notes to learn more about each one. ––  Laura Martin Click for StyleNotes →

Most hair products are named for what they do—volume foam, curl control, hydro mist—which should make picking the right ones easy. But sometimes the best product for a particular task is the one that’s named for the opposite texture. From my favorite collection of ARROJO Products, for example, curl control’s moisture and hold are a dream for straightening; volume foam has great grip for smoothing. Confused? Gigi rarely has a fashion misstep, but even for her this braided bun was a standout. The style, which she wore back in September (ahead of the game, as usual) epitomizes a trend I expect to see a lot of this year: classic shapes with intricate details. This look comes together in under 10 minutes, but—thanks to some careful detailing—it looks intricate and carefully constructed. It’s the perfect pairing for a streamlined ensemble like Gigi’s fitted jacket and sultry cat eye.
