Hair is part of your identity; when it changes, so do you. As a child, frizzy amber hair gave away my roots as a Jewish immigrant. Highlighted and flat-ironed, I was a teen on the town. Locks, dark and long and curly were the standard for my artsy college years. A chic bob helped me look the part as a designer at a beauty conglomerate. It’s obvious, hair relates to how we feel or want to feel, and to how we are perceived. Now working for a trendy hair care brand and loving life in the Big Apple, I felt I needed a change to reflect my new demeanor. Read about my transformation in the style notes… –– Michelle Rotbart

In the 20th century, original It-Girl Clara Bow and hairdressing pioneer Vidal Sassoon popularized the bob.
