Photo: Etro Fall 2016 Ad Campaign

Paging through the September 2016 issue of W searching for content that wasn’t an advertisement, I kept catching images of buoyant clouds of curls in the ad campaigns. While I may be sick of the clothes from months of analyzing them on runway, I’m not sick of seeing natural hair texture, waves and curls across the glossies. In Louis Vuitton, Natalie Westling’s signature flamed tendrils appear in gorgeous ringlets. Frederikke Sofie‘s blonde and soft ethereal crowning curls appear in both Chloé and Etro, setting the standard for bohemian beauties everywhere. Heather Kemesky and Jourdan Dunn wore dark wavy bobs and Selena Forrest’s spirals took on a grungy appeal in DKNY. Looks like curls will shape how beauty complements fashion for another season. I’m optimistic that this celebration of curls is more than just a trend, and is now a true classic. New York Fashion week is known for pushing the envelope, and the looks can be hard to translate to the street. If the runways at home seem too extreme, you may find inspiration abroad. The French are famous for gamine chic: an understated, effortless and slightly androgynous style.  From shirred waves to boyish pleats, these subdued looks are subtle enough for everyday wear and oh so stylish. If the humidity we were experiencing earlier this month is a foreshadow for the rest of the sunny season, then we’re in for another hot summer. Lucky for wavy, curly and frizzy types, it appears that the sans heat-style shags seen at the Louis Vuitton Resort show, pictured above, are perfect for dealing with humidity. Whether you’re going for a textured fringe or not, whether it’s wave, curl, or bounce that you want, you too can get sexy, lived-in, wash-and-wear nonchalance with a little bit of the right styling products. The resort season is already upon us. Karl Lagerfeld showed Chanel in Seoul, Dior stayed in France, and Nicolas Ghesquière’s just showed the LV collection at the Bob Hope estate in California. With Nicolas Ghesquière citing the cult ’70s film 3 Women as one of the inspirations for the cruise collection, its only natural that the beauty looks followed. Messy and bedhead-esque waves in the desert were a nod to Pinky Rose, the character in the film played by a young Sissy Spacek. Fresh and glowing faces done up by makeup guru Pat McGrath were equally energetic. The collection in general left a nice sense of playfulness––perfect for the Californian attitude.
