Everyone says spring is the season of renewal but, beyond the natural world, I really think it’s actually autumn. There’s plenty of change in the air and it’s a great time to learn a new beauty skill. You know I’ve never met a braid I didn’t like, but I’ve especially always loved the fishtail braid. It looks intricate and intimidating but its’ actually an easy plait to master. All you need is second day hair, your hands, a little bit of product, and a hair tie. Get braiding ladies, I’m predicting this will be the it accessory to match your fall fashions. Click through to the notes to get started. –– Michelle Rotbart

The Alexander McQueen show is always a visual treat, usually part macabre, part romance, and with lots of shock and awe. So when creative director Sarah Burton presented a sensual and romantic vision of beauty on the runway, it was surprisingly provocative. The bohemian and feminine hair was a mix of slept-in spirals and embroidery. The design team actually used a needle and invisible thread to create the homespun style. While this style is definitely editorial, you too can have a romantic style by loosely tying hair back with a gold ribbon or a broach and by leaving any stray tendrils out. I have yet to meet a braid I didn’t like. Thank goodness, because they’re not going out of style anytime soon. From plump crowns worn by Iggy Azalea to wispy side plaits, there is something about braids that make them a solid staple. The current braid my favorite it-girls are wearing? A low-key and casual side braid. It’s perfect because it’s versatile, you can keep it sleek and tight or fatten it up and add some major volume, or even dress it up with a little black bow. So who is ready to get braiding? Click through to style notes to see some of my favorite looks. –– Michelle Rotbart

It looks like skinny braids are trending down for the moment. We’ve suddenly seen an influx of more loosely worn, ever more substantial braids inspired by your boyfriend’s casual style. So when we came across the wider, undone, yet not mussy braids seen at the most recent Suno collection, we knew we found a braid everyone would love. And while creating this particular plait doesn’t seem possible without a second set of hands, we have a great alternative. Click through to style notes for details. –– Michelle Rotbart
