This year’s Met Gala theme was Manus X Machina: Fashion In an Age of Technology. The red carpet was full of metallics, intricate embellishments and clever cutouts. In fact, the clothes were so interesting that hair and makeup were easy to miss, but a closer look revealed some stunning styles including these looks written about by my fellow blogger, Michelle Rotbart. But most memorable for me was Rita Ora’s sleek bun topping a geometric arrangement of mirrors. This style was perfect for the red carpet, but could also add some sparkle to your festival attire or even top your favorite date night ensemble. Best of all, this look is a cinch to recreate; learn how in the notes. — Laura Martin  Click for StyleNotes →

The Met Gala is known to be the biggest and most fashionable event in New York City and invites go to the entire fashion industry. Celebrities and those in the in-crowd took extra care to primp themselves for the famous ball, which this year was themed Manux x Machina. The theme speaks to the connection between technology and craftsmanship. Futurism and modernism must have been on everyone’s mind, as many of the it-gals attending wore hair that’s fit for a bionic babe. Lucky for us, machines can’t replace the handiwork of hairstylists.
