I’m going to be honest: the hair at NYFW Spring Summer 2015 was, dare I say it, boring. Most of the shows featured air-dryer texture, or smooth blowouts. The usually array of extreme textures and over-the-top styles was strangely absent. Instead the runways were full of simple, pretty hair—not very interesting, at least not at first. But look a little closer and there’s lots to love. From streaks of silver to tiny knots, to unusual parts, the beauty of this season is all in the details. It was released with spring ’15 in mind, but this is the perfect collection to take us into the long weekend. The latest ad campaign from Rosa Cha, the Brazilian beachwear label, Barbara Palvin, Erin Heatherton, Frida Gustavsson, and Taylor Marie Hill star in a large selection of images where fun and frolics and good times with friends is the life-affirming theme. There’s just enough of the summer season left to take inspiration from these images to run to the beach in tie-dyes, ruffles, and carefree textured hairstyles. See the full spread in the style notes.
Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, and super model Gisele Bündchen recently teamed up to prove to the world that cropped cuts are super sexy. For his third runway season at Balenciaga, Alexander Wang shot Gisele for his Fall 2014 campaign. Nothing too special right? A super model in a designer ad? Wrong. The ad totally rocked beauty standards by depicting Gisele–a super model known and loved for her envy-inducing beach waves––with a masculine cropped cut. Fashion-followers got a glimpse of a new and rebellious Gisele in her shorn and slicked back strands amongst a series of cracked mirrors, which makes the campaign even more intriguing. Don’t worry wave-enthusiasts, it was all excellently faked through the use of some photoshop magic. But we really love the look and if Giselle and other top super models can pull off this hot style, you can too. The release of this year’s fall / winter Versace campaign was eagerly awaited, and the Italian fashion house doesn’t disappoint with a set of glamorous photos that are meant to make women feel powerful. Starring Stella Tennant as a widow-shopper enthralled by a mannequin (played by Anna Ewers) the images are, according to Donatella Versace, “about strength and sensuality.” To see more of the campaign and gain the fortitude to go and pick up your new Versace purse, click style notes.
