Once a runway for jaw-dropping femininity and daring Hollywood looks, the red carpet is transforming into more of street-style spectacle, especially for hair.  Case in point, the 2017 SAG Awards.  Noticeably absent were the hair-sprayed tresses and the over-the-top up-dos seen many times before at red-carpet events.  This time, there was a new look in town: The undone, street-inspired natural and wavy textures that are already ruling 2017. Chrissy Teigen, Brie Larson and Natalie Portman were just a few of the stars rocking natural tresses in a pinned-up or down style with perfectly imperfect presentation.  See below for more of my favorite SAG hair looks. –– Brittany Weiner

Photo: Etro Fall 2016 Ad Campaign

Paging through the September 2016 issue of W searching for content that wasn’t an advertisement, I kept catching images of buoyant clouds of curls in the ad campaigns. While I may be sick of the clothes from months of analyzing them on runway, I’m not sick of seeing natural hair texture, waves and curls across the glossies. In Louis Vuitton, Natalie Westling’s signature flamed tendrils appear in gorgeous ringlets. Frederikke Sofie‘s blonde and soft ethereal crowning curls appear in both Chloé and Etro, setting the standard for bohemian beauties everywhere. Heather Kemesky and Jourdan Dunn wore dark wavy bobs and Selena Forrest’s spirals took on a grungy appeal in DKNY. Looks like curls will shape how beauty complements fashion for another season. I’m optimistic that this celebration of curls is more than just a trend, and is now a true classic. rugged beauty

There was a time when feminine beauty was all about delicacy. Tiny waists and feet, long hair, and flouncy dresses were the norm. Thankfully as women have fought for freedom and equality they’ve also given up looking like fragile dolls. From Cara Delevingne’s strong eyebrows to Adriana Lima’s sculpted abs, looking tough is the new sexy. Want to bring some strength to your beauty routine? Learn how in the style notes. –– Laura Martin
