Pirelli Calendar Album 2017 Courtesy fashiongonerogue.com

The Pirelli Calendar Album was once the preserve of the pinup. Teenage boys and car mechanics sweated over its release, desperate to see beauties writhing in the sand. But times, they are a changin’. This iconic marker of the gregorian calendar has moved on. Artsy black and white images of women with talents beyond their otherworldly eye-appeal is the new style de jour. Ergo, we see the likes of Julianne Moore, Uma Thurman, Robin Wright, and Nicole Kidman in chic but thought-provoking poses, and minus the retouching that is obligatory in today’s glossy’s. It’s nice to see these women in more intimate photographs; it allows a window to their imperfections, and to the marks that life has left. The hair is undone and beautiful. See more below.

strawberry blonde

Blondes are always fun, and probably the most popular summer hair color. But as the sunny season comes to its close, most of us are looking for a change. These examples of strawberry-toned blondes build on a flaxen base, and seem perfectly suited to the last days of summer, when the sky lights up with mercurial golden sunsets. To get a similar color, a mixture of golden and strawberry blonde highlights will add warmth, depth and dimension. For more tips on achieving strawberry tones of blonde, click style notes.

cannesredcarpet

The annual Cannes Film Festival previews exciting new films of all genres. Glamorous and exclusive, it is just as well known for its red carpet, where the A-list preview couture spring looks. So it’s a great place to catch up on the latest celebrity hair trends. Some of the stand-outs were at the opposite end of the style spectrum, as we saw everything from epic braids to sleek center parts. Blake Lively, Kendall Jenner, and Nicole Kidman showed off three of my favorites. For easy styling tips for making similar shapes, click notes. –– Kelly Rowe
