This week, I attended New York Fashion Week’s Scandinavian Showcase to see niche designers, Linda Sipila, Viona Blu, and Olav show off their Fall ’13 collections. Amongst the modern and progressive designs, which highlighted the heritage of each creative, I found the fish leather accessories of Viona Blu the most eye-catching. Her other accessory –– hair –– was even more striking and inspiring. Piled high on each model’s head, the styles were reminiscent of the bouffants, pompadours, and chignons that showed off the youthful features and ephemeral beauty of Gibson’s archetype. Hair color is a hot topic of the beauty conscious, and this week’s look at wearing blonde, brunette, or red shows how different colors change how we look and feel. Then, as we were catching up with some of our favorite fashion bloggers, we found this sexy, bombshell cochineal by tootsie covers queen, Jane Aldridge –– master of the Sea of Shoes blog. Red is the most distinctive of the natural shades; it gets noticed. Some reds are more attention grabbing than others, so getting the right degree of brightness is important. Skin tone is another important factor in selection. Copper and strawberry flatter warmer complexions where cooler coloring looks better against rose and berry tones.
