Alicia Vikander made her mark on Oscars night, not only did she win Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl, but her modern take on evening hair on the red carpet was an all-around win. I loved the carefree half-up topknot she wore. It was an excellent finishing detail to her yellow Louis Vuitton dress and would look just as great at a brunch with friends. I can’t wait to rock this look. Thankfully you don’t have to be an award winner to wear it either. In case you missed it, last night was the biggest night of award season: the Oscars. And while most eyes were checking out the dresses, I was all about the hair and faces. An actress’s beauty look carries equal if not more importance to her outfit, as it’s the finishing touch that can make her unforgettable. There were many inspired styles on the night; my favorite’s include Jennifer Lawrence wearing her scintillating blonde casually down, Olivia Wilde’s side-parted braid bun, and Daisy Ridley’s intricate updo. I recommend pulling these looks into your files to use as inspiration for your next fancy event. Whenever there’s a racy Hollywood hit, the starring actress is always the talk of Tinsel Town; even if Jen and Angelina had mud wrestled down the red carpet, last night’s Oscars would still have been dominated by Dakota Johnson. Apart from squabbling with her date and mum Melanie Griffith over the importance of going to see BDSM-sex at the multiplex, she took the limelight with style and class. Wearing a gorgeous floor length red Saint Lauren gown, red pout, and understated pony she looked elegant and smokin’ hot. Steal Dakota’s style in the notes.

Amongst the pomp and circumstance of the Oscars, several trends emerged. Cropped cuts are cool, the ombre fire is raging, tousle and flow outed lacquered straight looks, and side-sweeps –– whether up or down –– are right on cue. Here, country wunderkind, Carrie Underwood, fiddles her way to a sweeping messy, wavy bun, with lots of long wisps left loose for playful styling. Multi-dimensional blonde highlights complete a feminine and amorous look.

Angelina forgoes her typically polished runway look for a more fashionable, mussed up style. The flowing, golden waves present a womanly tousle and flow, and a gorgeous, romantic face-frame. Styles that go from flat and straight at the crown into gushing wave and curl waterfalls are right on trend –– use hot tools to get these looks quickly and easily.
