This cheery prediction for the future of fashion features Rihanna as Furiosa, protagonist from Mad Max: Fury Road. You probably know there is some sort of correlation between your hair color and your skin tone, but there’s a common misconception that your skin and hair should match, or at least fall in the same tonal family (warm with warm, cool with cool). Not true! Matching your hair to your skin makes you look washed out or sickly. Don’t do it! Instead, you need to go for the opposite tone. Do that and you’ll have lots of options. Just take a look at Rihanna. Her warm skin glows when she wears cool red and browns, but looks weirdly orange when she pairs it with copper and gold shades. How do you know which skin tone you have? What if you’re neutral? Just click through to the notes to find out. –– Laura MartinClick for StyleNotes →
Trends are a fickle thing. You think green hair is the coolest and then Rihanna and Katy Perry go and post pictures of blue hair on Instagram and, wham, there’s a new style du jour. But if you pay close attention, there are always new emerging themes coming from the top end of fashion and beauty. In lieu of fixing our ADD, we asked Zach Norman, leading colorist at ARROJO Studio Williamsburg (i.e., the world’s hippest location) for his hair color trend predictions for the coming year. Beat the hoi polloi in the notes.
Rihanna is one of those people that is not afraid to change her hair dramatically. Her most recent adventure was a striking royal blue and I am loving it. I love blue hair almost as much as I love blonde hair, but it is a tough shade to pull off and not everyone can wear this dramatic tone of a blue. Get tips on the blue that will work best for you in the notes. –– Kelly Rowe
