wetlook

Whenever the runways come around, so does the wet look hairstyle. On gangly, gaunt, waif-like girls the dripping wet look can be maddeningly sexy; the hair sparkles under the lights and the lens, adding drama and devilish indifference to the catwalk. But for the girl on the street, the wet look hairstyle appears a distant dream, the preserve of an elite cadre of chosen women. It doesn’t have to be that way. Just see the wet look as another way to wear the undone, lived-in hairstyle trend. For our tips, click notes.

I’m going to be honest: the hair at NYFW Spring Summer 2015 was, dare I say it, boring. Most of the shows featured air-dryer texture, or smooth blowouts. The usually array of extreme textures and over-the-top styles was strangely absent. Instead the runways were full of simple, pretty hair—not very interesting, at least not at first. But look a little closer and there’s lots to love. From streaks of silver to tiny knots, to unusual parts, the beauty of this season is all in the details. It was just a matter of time until the festival trend appeared on the runway. Though we’ve seen it on the street and on every summer holiday this past season, festival hadn’t hit the catwalk hard until this past week. Our favorite take on the trend? The undone braids we saw within multiple designer collections. At Vera Wang, we loved the baby bohemian theme, pulled together with crafted, almost dread-lock like braids coming in from the under layers of models hair. And at Michael Kors, the beauty team paired messy textured braids with the feminine and classic silhouettes. So no matter if you’re rocking the neo-hippie look this season or are more minimalist, a little bit of braiding will tie your look together. Chic and sleek side-parts are a fashion week staple (they keep hair off the face and don’t take real estate away from the clothes), which always makes them a popular fall/winter style. You can beat the masses by adopting the look now. With hair kept close to the scalp and the front worn sleek across the head, the style creates a glossy geometric feel. Shiny, clean, and feminine get our tips for making this style in the click style notes.
