Alicia Vikander made her mark on Oscars night, not only did she win Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl, but her modern take on evening hair on the red carpet was an all-around win. I loved the carefree half-up topknot she wore. It was an excellent finishing detail to her yellow Louis Vuitton dress and would look just as great at a brunch with friends. I can’t wait to rock this look. Thankfully you don’t have to be an award winner to wear it either. Channel the 80s and exude playful confidence with an extra-high ponytail. Placing the tail on top of your head gives the style fun, flirty movement. Swing the ends forward, wear them to the side, or tease them out and let them tumble across your face. The high placement lifts features for a youthful, eye-catching appearance. Wear it at the gym for effortless sexiness and functionality, or pair it with a strapless dress for a look that’s both easy-going and glamorous. Ponytails are a perfect hairstyle because they are accessible, practical, and given the right style, look good on everyone. However, your pony doesn’t have to be mundane and depend on basic black hair elastics. We are loving the metal hair tie trend that has caught wave recently. Try one of these ties with a sleek and slicked back pony or a teased style. Click through for steps on how to execute each pony tail.
