There are few women that have looked as stylish and as effortless as Jane Birkin. Case in point: her signature hairstyle. Loose waves, sexy long bangs, and chunky layers that hit just at the chin. It’s an easy-going look, but it also feels a little tough. It’s a little shaggy, a little mod, and a lot sexy. Camp+X+Ray+New+York+Premiere+rAiHdGzA_0Ex

Attending the premiere of Camp X-Ray at The Crosby Hotel, New York, Kristen Stewart gave us the perfect chance to take a close up look at her new ‘do. In short, the style is a winner. A cropped, choppy and shaggy shape with textured layers all through the top, sides, front and back the strong side part gives an asymmetrical feel and, with the parting sweeping across the face, it’s a great style for drawing attention to eyes. Hollywood’s paragon of virtue also nailed the color. A rich brown base in mocha tones is ramped up a notch with subtle hues of red peaking through, which is both on trend and seasonally appropriate. The coolest braid for fall is a tight and sleek, a small three-strand plait worn clean and neat. There are lots of ways you can wear this trend: pull all hair into a single plait, wear one as an accent, or add a few, evenly spaced, along the front hairline. The thin plaits have a clean, rope-like feeling, a little tough while still feeling pretty. Learn to create slender, shiny braids in the style notes. –– Laura Martin

The fitness trend is taking fashion in new directions, toward cleaner lines, softer makeup, and more easy-going, sport-inspired hairstyles. Last year’s wet look trend was all about youthful freshness and healthy glow. On the runways of Spring/Summer 2015 styling trends exhibit a full range of sports-related themes. From tumbling yoga-ponytails, to damp tennis-bobs, to slick boxer braids. Weather you want to look tough or dewy, there’s plenty here to love. marc-jacobs-2015-spring-summer-runway-show20

Marc Jacobs continues to surprise. Closing New York Fashion Week, his Spring/Summer 2015 collection featured military-themed dresses with cargo pockets and over-sized silhouettes, so the next time you need to use lethal force to catch the subway, at least you can do it in the right duds. We actually find the beauty look most interesting. The models wore no makeup and instead of tough, guy-like hairstyles one might expect to match the outfits, the girls wear virtually identical jet-black, bob-length wigs with full fringes. See the collection in the style notes.
