You already know that washing your hair every day can dry it out and make your color fade faster, and yet, you can’t seem to give up the habit. You’ve tried skipping a day or two and your hair looks terrible: your hair line breaks out, your roots look greasy, and your strands feel limp and lifeless. You’ve seen all the cute “second day” hairstyles but your second day hair is only fit for a ponytail. You know that if you could suffer through a few months of bad hair everything would even out, but you can’t just look rough for 3 months! Sound familiar? Click the notes and learn my secrets for transitioning into less frequent shampooing without looking or feeling terrible. –– Laura Martin Click for StyleNotes →

Almost every woman I know thinks she has a round face. Most of them don’t, but the concern over looking round means that most of us gravitate toward styles than slim. In fact, a majority of popular fashion and beauty trends—the little black dress, contoured makeup, nude footwear—cater to this desire. Hairstyles with long lines and lean proportions provide a flattering, lean silhouette that you can pair with any ensemble. Jennifer-Lawrence

In case you missed it, last night was the biggest night of award season: the Oscars. And while most eyes were checking out the dresses, I was all about the hair and faces. An actress’s beauty look carries equal if not more importance to her outfit, as it’s the finishing touch that can make her unforgettable. There were many inspired styles on the night; my favorite’s include Jennifer Lawrence wearing her scintillating blonde casually down, Olivia Wilde’s side-parted braid bun, and Daisy Ridley’s intricate updo. I recommend pulling these looks into your files to use as inspiration for your next fancy event. To see more of my favorites, click through to style notes. –– Michelle Rotbart Click for StyleNotes →

J.F. couture copy

The Paris couture shows are currently underway, and there is some seriously great hair. On one end there are twists and updos via Chanel and Dior, and on the other, to-die-for voluminous waves at Julien Fournie. The large barrel curls at this show embodied everything ‘70s glamour and for me were the real stars of the catwalk. I also loved the continued idea of tiaras at Elie Saab and the golden metal serpents slithering through the models tendrils at Valentino. Plenty of inspiration to last all season! So while some may think that couture is out-dated and has no place for the modern world…they haven’t seen this season’s collection or the don’t know great hair.  If you’re ready to find your next ‘do, click through to the notes to see some of my favorite styles from the Paris couture shows. –– Michelle Rotbart  Click for StyleNotes →
