When we see modern versions of vintage techniques, like finger waves and pin curls, they’re usually prim and polished, worn in sleek updos or coifs, which makes sense if you’re using old school methods: meticulous patience and lots of gel. The looks shown here take a different approach: waves are whipped up with a curling wand, or sculpted onto nearly-dry strands with product, and then tousled and teased to create a freer, less formal look that retains a sense of retro glamour.
