The Met Gala is most notably known as a star-studded evening filled with glitterati and paparazzi honoring a designer of choosing, and this year’s honoree was Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcon. As daring as the fashion choices were (as to be expected with such an eponymous designer), we saw everything from peacock-adorned dresses to wearable forms of art such Rihanna’s sculptural, multi-layered gown. With such an outlandish and exaggerated theme, it would only be expected that hair and makeup would be be competing to be outrageous and forthright as well.
With texture trending, there were a surprising amount of slicked center-part bobs, which were a nice breath of fresh air. Selena Gomez, Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid were those who opted for the classic style, while others such as Rose Byrne and Gigi Hadid took a more tousled approach paying homage to natural textures.
Even more daring, was Zendaya Coleman who stepped out in more of an editorial-inspired shoulder grazing, three-dimensional texturized look.
Gearing up to more jaw-dropping looks were those such as Kate Hudson, who donned a silver-bleached exaggerated top knot and even more daring was Cara Delevingne with what seemed to be a silver-painted, bedazzled freshly painted buzzed head.
And the most Avant-Garde of them all? Katy Perry, who ditched the hair-scene overall by covering her locks with a red voluminous veil.
So might you ask yourself our favorites over here at Style Noted Towers? Lets start with Lily Collins’ blunt, dark brown bob and Rihanna’s piece-y top knot with textured bangs. We also were a big fan of J-Lo’s flowing locks that made us reminisce of repunzel.
The Spring 2017 menswear shows are currently underway in Milan. And while this season is mostly focused on the men, some designers are showing early looks for the ladies as well. Miuccia Prada returned to travel as an overall theme for the season and the ladies strutting down her runway wore amazing gym inspired braids paired with dewy complexions—a great beauty combination for summer. I loved the sporty hair, a look comprised of slim braids that were done diagonally down the crown and finished with a halo of wispys. The models appeared to have just walked out of yoga class, their inner glow showing through. This is gym chic done right. The fashion crowed is Down Under this week at Sydney’s Resort 2017 shows. A highlight reel of Gucci’s clashing prints, souvenir jackets, and cool new takes on denim are ruling the sidewalk. Of course we know that every outfit is actually made with a great topping of crowning glory. This is one of my favorite opportunities to check out emerging hair trends. Thus far I’ve seen amazing fringe and waves on model Annabella Barber and some fabulous turbans and hats on stylist Catherine Baba. Undone waves and wonderful toppers for the season? I’ll take it.
