One of the hottest –– and certainly the bravest –– hair color trends of spring and summer is blue. From Katy Perry’s bold sapphire to Jamie Kings’s dip-dye aqua-blue, these are shades to get you noticed. If blue is not for you, but you still want a statement color, reds and greens and purples also fit the drift towards bold, vibrant hues. Alternatively, for a softer look, dip-dye with pastel shades that offer candy-coated appeal.
Step: The trick to colors like this is to pre-lighten your hair to very light blonde. In doing so, you create the equivalent of a blank canvas. You can go over it with any kind of bold and dynamic hue.
Step: Modern color manufacturers now produce tons of different shades. I work with Goldwell, and they have a fabulous ‘Elumen’ service, which is particularly pure and vibrant and rich, while offering a rainbow of vanguard colors.
Step: Most important is that the color fits your lifestyle and personality, otherwise such strong coloring can look out of place. Talk to your colorist about what will work with your complexion, eye color, wardrobe, and day to day life.
