This fall’s trendiest shades are silvery and cool: icy blondes, blue-based reds, and ash browns. Giving yourself a seasonal update is a great way to keep your look current whether you opt for a simple tonal shift or a full-on color makeover. If considering a dramatic change, do so gradually over a few salon visits to minimize damage and give yourself time to adapt to your new shade. Blonde: You don’t have to go darker for the fall, cool platinum and silver shades are very in. To get your flaxen locks in shape for the season ask your colorist for a conditioning treatment and a glaze to eliminate sun damage and summer brassiness.
Red: Peach and strawberry tones are beautiful choices for summer, but they don’t hold up well next to the rich hues of fall clothing and makeup. Auburn, candy apple and aubergine are beautiful shades for the season. Try going darker a shade or two at a time. The gradual change will prevent fading and give you time to get used to a new tone.
Brunette: Cool, earthy browns are rich and lovely for fall. Ask your colorist to add some ash to your formula for a quick seasonal update. If you have highlights or hand painted ends, glaze with a taupe or khaki hue for a season update without losing brightness.
