As many curly gals will attest, growing up with curls and kinks was incredibly difficult. My mother always wore a cool crop and all the cool girls in middle school had shiny blonde and straight tendrils, so there was no hope for me. I had no idea what to do with my curls or how to manage frizz. Most of the time my hair was thrown up into a bun or barely managed with some crunchy gel. Thankfully today embracing your curls is so much easier. Read any beauty magazine or walk into any specialty or mass beauty store and you’ll see tons of curl specific hair products. So whether you have waves, tight spirals, or an amazing afro, you can embrace your curls! Click through to style notes to see some real girl curl inspiration. –– Michelle Rotbart
