In the 20th century, original It-Girl Clara Bow and hairdressing pioneer Vidal Sassoon popularized the bob. Step: Prep damp hair with texture paste. Cup strands and scrunch in an upward motion, twist hair with fingers to create pieceyness.

Step: Use protective thickening lotion when heat styling. Create additional movement by using a Curling Wand. Switch the direction of curls to accentuate ruffled texture.

Step: Once complete, finger through the curls to loosen; spray in refinish for gritty texture and a lived-in feel.
