Looking beautiful is good; looking effortlessly beautiful is better. As much as we may praise perfect blowouts and designer gowns we most admire those women who look sexy and polished in jeans and messy ponytails (we’re thinking of you, Kate Moss). There’s just something gorgeous about wildness, easiness. For one thing, imperfect cuts and styles don’t draw attention to your imperfections. They look confident, and carefree, and minimize asymmetry in the features. Whether you want to try this look for a day with a wild updo or embrace it full time with a jagged, asymmetric cut, click the style notes for tips on making unpolished look fabulous. –– Laura Martin

Step: To add a little imperfection to your daily look, give it matte texture with refinish dry shampoo. If wearing up, pull loose some wispy bits around the hairline and leave some slack in your updo.

Step: Instead of brushing hair into place, try styling with your fingers. If you’re using pins or clips, leave them exposed instead of hiding them on the interior of your hair.

Step: To push this look to the limit opt for a choppy cut with jagged edges or uneven texture. Start with an uneven bang if you’re not ready for a full-head commitment. You’ll be amazed how flattering it is!
